Arrangements for Putin-Trump Summit Delayed Shortly After Hungarian Capital Negotiations Suggested

Currently exist "no arrangements" for US President President Trump to confer with Russia's Vladimir Putin "anytime soon", a White House official has stated.

Last Thursday Trump stated he and the Russian president would meet in Budapest soon to address the ongoing hostilities.

A initial discussion between US Secretary of State Secretary Rubio and his Russian counterpart Foreign Minister Lavrov was planned for recently - but the White House stated the two had had a "positive" call and that a face-to-face session was no longer "needed".

The White House declined to provide further information on the reason the negotiations had been put on hold.

Earlier Events

The US president had raised the possibility of a Hungarian meeting via telephone with Putin, a just prior to hosting Ukrainian President President Zelensky in the White House.

Some reports claimed his talks with Zelensky had been a "heated exchange", with insiders suggesting Trump had pushed him to relinquish significant territories of Ukraine's east as part of a deal with Moscow.

Yet, on Monday the American president endorsed a truce plan endorsed by Kyiv and European leaders to freeze the war on the present positions.

"Leave it as is where it stands," he said.

Moscow has consistently objected against halting the present battle positions.

The Russian government was exclusively seeking "permanent resolution", Russia's foreign minister stated on Tuesday, indicating that halting hostilities would merely represent a short-term truce.

Diplomatic Positions

The "underlying reasons" of the hostilities demanded attention, the Russian diplomat emphasized, using Kremlin shorthand for a series of extensive requirements that include the acknowledgment of complete Moscow control over the eastern region as well as the disarmament of Ukraine – a impossible condition for Kyiv and its European partners.

The Ukrainian president said discussions about the battle positions were the "commencement of dialogue" but that Russia was "doing everything" to avoid diplomacy.

He also said the sole subject that could cause Russia to "take notice" was that of the delivery of distance-capable munitions to Ukraine.

Military Considerations

Putin's spontaneous discussion with Trump recently occurred before rumors that the United States was planning to provide extended-range cruise missiles to Ukrainian forces that could possibly hit deep into Russia.

Zelensky asserted it was the weapons consideration that had forced Russia to participate in talks. The talk about the weapons systems had proven to be a "strong investment" in international relations", he added.
