Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only eight real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players looking for different ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
